How do you achieve your aims and hopes?

We are achieving our aims by developing our ‘Going the extra mile… making the extra difference’ strategy. This will ensure we raise standards of attainment and pupils’ achievement by the end of each key stage through high quality teaching and learning, an exciting, dynamic and creative curriculum, rigorous and highly effective leadership and management at all levels, high expectations and aspirations for all our pupils.

Some of our children have given the best definition of ‘Going the extra mile… making the extra difference’:

“It means aiming high.”

“Going further in life.”

“An extra push that will make a big difference to your whole life.”

Every year, we celebrate our GEM ethos by hosting a number of extra special ‘GEM Days’, during which we encourage and develop skills to help children succeed. Last year we even made a GEM anthem, for which the children wrote all the lyrics and music. All the instruments played during the anthem were made by children, using junk and recylced materials. We then performed the song as an entire school!

We learnt that, not only can our children made a great deal of noise (we think you could have heard the drums from the other side of Bradford!), but also that to be successful, confident and responsible we need to work together to ‘go the extra mile’!
